UCD Peer Mentors are matched with incoming students and offer their experience and advice on starting at UCD. UCD Peer Mentors share their own experiences in facing and overcoming challenges so that you can see that you are capable of engaging successfully in whatever field they are in.
Our Peer Mentors remember what it’s like to come here for the first time and they use that experience, and the knowledge they have gained since, to help new students integrate and begin to develop a sense of belonging to their programme of study and to the University more generally.
Your Peer Mentor will organise 3-4 social activities and meetings during the year to get together. You may use these opportunities to have fun and get to know your classmates or discuss any issues/queries that are affecting you.
What happens next?
● Peer Mentors will contact you on your new student email account (UCD Connect)
● Peer Mentors will set up a group meeting online so you can meet your new classmates
● Peer Mentors will take you on a virtual tour of the UCD campus to show you the places that will be most important for you
● Peer Mentors are available to you for advice, guidance and as a friendly face for the rest of the academic year!
Stage 1 students meet their Peer Mentors during Orientation week. Each student will be placed in a group of 10-15 other Stage 1 students from the same programme /subject area. Each Peer Mentor will organise 3-4 social activities and meetings during the year to get together. You may use these opportunities to have fun and get to know your classmates or discuss any issues/queries that are affecting you.
Your Peer Mentor will be in touch with you before Orientation via your new student email address. They will invite you to meet with them and the rest of your Peer Mentoring group prior to your beginning classes at UCD.
